Fight or Flutter

The purpose of Fight or Flutter was to take inspiration from nature’s pollinators. This collection was inspired by the monarch butterfly to bring attention to their decreasing numbers, as we experience fewer each year. To represent the monarch butterfly, the collection includes colors inspired by the monarch’s favorite flower to eat, the milkweed, a plant that is also in decreased numbers. Shapes within the garments were inspired by the monarch’s wings and silhouette. These were created using laser cutting. The combination of laser-cut shapes and fabric layers creates multiple dimensions in the garments. The result of taking inspiration from Monarch butterflies will hopefully raise awareness about our important pollinators.
